"I Love You" and Auto Memories Dolls (「愛してる」と自動手記人形, "Aishiteru" to Jidō Shuki Ningyō?) is the first episode of the Violet Evergarden anime adaptation. It aired on January 10, 2018.
Summary
After surviving the Great War, Violet wakes up in the army’s hospital. The creamy white arms that she lost had been replaced with silver-colored prosthetics. Hoping to go back to work as fast as possible, she attempts to write a report to her superior officer, Gilbert, but can’t even manage to hold a pen with her new limbs. A former lieutenant-colonel of the army, Hodgins, comes to visit her. As he says he had come to pick her up on Gilbert’s request, Violet is taken by him to the capitol city, Leiden. While observing the city where scars from the war remained, Violet reminisced to “certain words” that Gilbert had told her in the battlefield.
